The One Where We Came Across a Dead Pigeon

Companion's Log
Stardate: Oct 29-Nov 4, 2019

So it done got cold! All the kids in the ward got a snow day, but we were still out walking the streets. Apparently it was a record low ever recorded in Pocatello in October. But we did have a car for half a day! We got to use the truck so we could go to the sketchy part of town after dark, and we finally contacted someone who we've been knocking with no response for weeks!

On Wednesday we had a temple trip with Tabitha, a recent convert, and I got to meet Sister Randall's last companion. And guess who forgot her temple recommend like a newb? Me. It was okay though they just had to look me up. It was my first time doing baptisms in a really long time, and the Idaho Falls temple is pretty cool.

We borrowed 17 Miracles from a member and watched it (after proselytizing hours, of course) while writing our phone number and stuff on all our pass along cards. It was dang cool! I love that movie! We kept track of all the miracles and the leitmotifs and I'm ready to pump out a 20 minute video essay about it! And I think I finally figured out where my Grandma is as an extra in the train scene. Maybe? Elizabeth Panting (the woman who leaves her abusive husband in the beginning, and gets the cave jerky from one of the 3 Nephites) is my Great-great-great grandmother and I think this time I really connected to her more. Just really realizing how hard it must have been, how strong and faithful she was to keep pulling that cart and her children all on her own. Also Levi Savage is just so great and I love how they do all the stuff with the wolves with him! It's such a good movie and it makes me cry okay end of rant.

This week we had our first real lesson with Nielza. I met her for the first time on my second day out in the field. She's from Brazil and is still learning English so we weren't able to talk very much. But this time we brought an Elder who served in Brazil for the first half of his mission to translate for us. There's also a woman in one of our wards who speaks Portuguese who we are going to bring sometimes. It was really cool.

So on Halloween missionaries have to be in by 6 to stay safe. So after our ward's trunk-or-treat we thought we'd have to hang out alone in our apartment but instead our zone had a "return and report" at the institute building. So Sister Randall got to destroy at basketball instead of sitting bored out of her mind, and I finally got to draw and paint a bit for the first time in like a month! I'm really trying to continue developing my talent, not bury it and all that but I really don't got time for that :(

After district council we did some service at a food bank together. I got this cool Danish Book of Mormon from the Family History Center. Can I read Danish? No. But look it's all cool and blue and old and stuff and it was free so I couldn't pass it up! We found a dead bird on the sidewalk. The Elders in our district had a baptism we got to go to. And on p-day we had a pancake/waffle breakfast together. The Elders rode the bus with us (their first time!) And we had a snowball fight while we waited for the other elders in the zone to come and unlock the stake center, then we aligned forces and ambushed them when they got there. Then we played some dnd as a mini district it was way cool.

P.S. I got a question I've been thinking about quite a bit lately. I'd like your thoughts, anyone who wants to answer: what is the purpose of anger? Why do we have this emotion? What are good qualities or outcomes of anger? What would we be without it?
