The One Where I Saw Rain Coming Down on a Sunny Day

Companion's Log Stardate: Oct 22-28, 2019 We caught a ride and we ended up 10 minutes early to our appointment. So we decided we'd tract a bit and the first door we knocked on actually let us in! That's the first time that's happened to me! They're Catholic snowbirds, so they're not interested and they're moving out in a week but they were still really nice! They'd met with some missionaries before so we were able to answer her questions about prophets, so that was really neat. Okay I gotta get something off my chest: faith is not like a little seed! Faith is not like knowing the sun will rise! Now I know what you're thinking, 'but Sister Dunn, Alma compares faith to a seed for a whole chapter!' Wrong! Alma compares the word to a seed, the act of faith is planting it! The primary song got it wrong, sorry! It's right there in Alma 32: faith is not a perfect knowledge, it's hope for things that are not seen which are true. So ...

The One Where I got like 6 Blisters

Companion's Log Stardate: Oct 15-21, 2019 Two emails in one day because we're catching up folks! We went back to Scott's to help him rake leaves again and pack up some boxes because he's moving soon. He really loves his grand-kids and showed us some cute pictures! And he told us a story about how he was saved by some angels as a kid. We left him a Book of Mormon so we'll see how it goes. It feels like he's so close! And yeah, I got like 6 blisters like right where I have to walk on them and it's not that fun. But it really showed me some tender mercies. We were walking past a member's house and she noticed my swagger *cough* *cough* limping *cough*, and asked me about it. She felt super bad and did some research and brought me a ton of moleskin and bandage stuff. So that was so nice and really helpful! It was suddenly 70 degrees that day but this really awesome lady we contacted gave me some water, so that was also super nice and helpful! And th...

The One Where Sister Randall Fell in a River

Companion's Log Stardate: Oct 9-14, 2019 So I didn't have to deal with any airport stress or luggage weight limits because we took a shuttle up to Pocatello. Just a nice little uneventful 4 hour-ish bus ride...into the snow! That's right it done snowed as we got there. President and Sister Southward greeted us right off the bus. We had a bunch of meeting type stuff I already don't remember and later had dinner at the mission home, then we got our companion and area assignments. We split up and slept at members' houses. I kind of floated through it all, I already miss my MTC district and getting "I want it that way" stuck in my head didn't help :( Next day I met my trainer, Sister Randall! Yup she's pretty cool, I'm already starting to pick up her accent a lil bit. She likes looking through my sketchbooks and stuff. This area just lost their cars so catch me walking around Pocatello just as winter begins. It's not too bad, though I do...

The One Where We Got Stuck in an Elevator

Companion's Log Stardate: Oct 2-8, 2019 Okay it was weird coming back to class and stuff on Wednesday. I still felt kind of off and a little depersonalized. It was like everything about being a missionary felt really distant and far away, like I hadn't done it for so long even though it had only really been a day and a half. So it felt odd trying to jump right back into it. Trc was especially strange feeling, I said the closing prayer and it was kind of hard to. But I felt better by the end of the day. The main thing I've learned over the past year is just not to spiral. It's like when you have a cold, and your nose is all stuffy and suddenly you can't remember what it's like to breathe normally and you get so frustrated and think it's going to be like that forever. But then after a week it's all back to normal and it doesn't even cross your mind. The same goes for when those depersonalization feelings show up again. I just have to remember that...
